Praying Gods Word in all areas of life… The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly
Welcome to Throwback Thursday. As I re-read this post I could see how relevant it still is. We are still in the midst of Covid 19, not totally locked down, yet nothing the same as before. The “new normal” has become household terminology which indicates life will never go back to what we once new. As Jesus followers we call out to him, look for signs and try to see where He is in the midst of this.
Do you ever have those days or seasons when It just feels like your prayers are bouncing off the ceiling.. if they even get that far. Maybe that’s how you are feeling as you cry out to God to fight this Coronavirus plaguing our world.
I was having one of those days; the prayer requests were getting deeper and the lists were getting longer… how long would this go on? What was happening to our world? Can we trust everything we are hearing? Are there other agendas at play in the midst of the worldwide pandemic?
So many questions, and seemingly, no answers… I was starting to feel that things were so out of control and really started to wonder if my prayers were making any difference at all.
I’ve learned over the years that when my mind starts going that way, I’d better get into Gods Word and see what He might be saying to me. As I’ve been studying 2 Chronicles , I thought I would go back there.
“At times I might shut up the heavens so that no rain falls, or command grasshoppers to devour your crops, or send plagues among you. / Then, if people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land. “ 2 Chronicles 7:13-14
I’ve learned so much from this verse; that God is in control of every part of our universe.. He can control the rain, command the insects and send plagues. I’ve learned that He does these things to get our attention… apparently we are slow learners and He oftentimes must resort to drastic measures before we pay attention.
I absolutely believe many many people around the world are praying for this type of revival among Gods people, and for those that do not yet know Him. I do believe that this has dropped many of us to our knees and caused our faces to look up to our Creator God.
I also believe that God will hear from heaven and forgive us our sins and restore our land… the problem is, I tend to want it done my way. That means sooner, rather than later, and preferably without the consequences that got us into the mess. I’m so thankful that God is patient with me.
It’s in these times that we have to recognize the subtle attacks of the enemy, to try to convince us that God isn’t listening. Why would he do this? Satan knows our prayers work, “tremendous power is released through the passionate, heartfelt prayer of a godly believer!” James 5:16b TPT
“My eyes will be open and my ears attentive to every prayer made in this place”. 2 Chronicles 7: 15
“Don’t be pulled in different directions or worried about a thing. Be saturated in prayer throughout each day, offering your faith-filled requests before God with overflowing gratitude. Tell him every detail of your life, / then god’s wonderful peace that transcends human understanding, will make the answers known to you through Jesus Christ.” Philippians 4: 6 & 7 TPT
Thank you for your Word, in your Word All our answers for life can be found. When I am troubled, Your Word brings me peace and hope, it reminds me that You Lord are still very much in control.
Lord God, I know many are lifting all kinds of prayers to you right now. Prayers for family, health, financial concerns and of course Covid 19 attacking our world. It is often when we are faced with things outside of our comfort zone and control that we find ourselves crying out to you. Sadly, oftentimes to only go back to the status quo as soon as things improve for our situation. Forgive me Lord, forgive your children… we are sadly hard-hearted foolish people.
This is exactly why this verse today, spoke so deeply to me Lord. You tell us in 2 Chronicles 7:13 &14 , that there are four things we are to do; – humble ourselves – seek your face – pray- and turn away from our sins. Lord, I think I am pretty good on the first three, but I believe so many of us ( myself included) often struggle with the fourth – those sins in our life. Sometimes we find comfort ( albeit false comfort) in those things that are actually separating ourselves from you.
Lord God, would you continue to open my eyes, and those others struggling to break free of the things that continue to hold us in the bondage of our own making. Continue to break through my stubborn & hardened heart, so that I might be able to identify those sins that I have simply become too comfortable with, and can’t recognize them for what they are.
Reveal to me, teach me and by your Spirit, enable me to turn form these ways so that you will turn your face back to me and hear my prayers, and make the answers known to me through Jesus Christ.
Lord God, we all have favourite passages in the scriptures that you have highlighted for us, open our eyes to see the full picture of all you would be teaching us. This is exactly what you showed me in the following verse… that I was actually stopping too soon and was missing out on the fullness of the passage..
“My eyes will be open and my ears attentive to every prayer made in this place”.
Now I know Lord, that some would argue with me that you were speaking about your Holy Temple that Solomon was dedicating to you in that time. Yet, I believe these words you spoke are just as applicable to us today.
When Jesus died on that cross and the inner curtains tore from top to bottom, All separation from you was gone forever. From that moment on, we All had equal access to Your most Holy place. Then You sent Your Holy Spirit to us, and our bodies became the temple you chose to now reside in. Thank you Jesus… what a gift! Therefore, I believe you are still speaking to us in the same way and these words you promised are still promises for us… Hallelujah
Lord God, I pray that Your eyes will be open to our troubles in this unprecedented time of Covid 19, and would Your ears be attentive to every prayer cried out by your children, wherever they are in this world. Thank you Jesus, for your great promises to hold onto – your Love – and yes your Grace… In Jesus name Amen
Do you, like me, at times feel like God is simply not listening to your prayers. Maybe He has more important things to worry about and take care of than the things of your heart. And honestly, what is with this Coronavirus? Are we ever going to hug our friends or loved ones again. With the rest of our days have our temperature taken every time we walk into a building?
I hear you, and feel your pain.. It’s easy to ask all the questions and start believing that there are no answers. Yet, God clearly shows us in His Word, that His ways are not our ways… that our ability to understand the bigger picture is limited. Over and over He shows us how He works out His plan through our life situations.
I want to assure you that even when it doesn’t feel like He is listening,,. especially when He feels absent, this is not the time to stop praying but rather to ramp it up in high gear. This is when the enemy wants to discourage you and God wants to see your heart of faith.
“Faith shows the reality of what we hope for: it is the evidence of things we cannot see. Hebrews 11:1 NLT
Be confident that God is a God who hears, He is the God that promised that “His eyes will be open and His ears attentive to every prayer made in this place”. Pray with confidence and persistence, believing in the right time and in the right way, He will answer…
